MacBioPhotonics is an internationally recognized Biophotonics Facility based in Hamilton, Ontario—associated with McMaster University. We are dedicated to transforming advanced optical physics and imaging techniques into powerful tools for exploring the molecular machinery of cells.

Our Mission

Our mission is to empower researchers—across academic, industrial, and government sectors—with leading-edge, live-cell imaging technologies. We strive to bridge the gap between cutting-edge photonics and practical biological discovery, enabling unprecedented insights into cellular processes like differentiation, migration, division, adhesion, and programmed cell death.

What We Offer

  • State-of-the-Art Imaging Infrastructure: Our facility houses a broad spectrum of advanced microscopy systems tailored for dynamic, live-cell analysis.

  • Expert Guidance & Support: Our trained staff facilitate seamless experiment setup, troubleshoot imaging challenges, and help interpret complex image data.

  • Open-Source Imaging Tools: In collaboration with ImageJ, we have developed and distributed specialized plugins—such as “Leica TIFF Sequence”—to streamline multi-image TIFF handling and spatial calibration workflows.

Our Impact

MacBioPhotonics has established itself as a vital hub for imaging-related research, facilitating high-resolution exploration of complex biological phenomena. By translating sophisticated optical physics into accessible methodologies, we enhance scientific rigor and accelerate discovery across a wide range of life science disciplines.
